The OPTIWAVE 1010 is a non-contact FMCW radar welded to a bypass chamber with an optional IP68 level indicator (BM 26 Advanced). It continuously measures the distance and level of clean liquids.

This device  is a 2-wire TDR level meter for measuring distance, level, volume and mass of liquids and solids. Its simple, compact design allows service technicians to quickly assemble the probe and attach it to a threaded connection. It is an affordable solution for applications that do not require a high level of accuracy and is also an excellent alternative to traditional level controls such as RF Capacitance, conductive and DP transmitters.

The display can be ordered with the device or as an accessory. It shows measurement data on a 128 × 64 pixel screen. The configuration menu permits the device to be set up in a small number of intuitive steps.

Cement or aggregates are placed in interim storage in multiple chamber silos. When the chambers are filled, large quantities of dust are generated. Depending on the consistency of the aggregate, different material cones are formed and the product properties can change from filling to filling.

OPTISWITCH offers additional protection against overfilling the aggregate silo. The flexible suspension cable avoids mechanical strain caused by movements of the bulk solid. A filling is not necessary for setup. Because OPTISWITCH has practically no moving parts, it is not subject to wear.

The BM 26 is a simple, rugged instrument designed to indicate level or interface. It indicates level using a float magnetically coupled to an index or a column of rotating flaps. It is ideal for aggressive media stored in tanks when the PTFE lining option is used.

For liquids with densities less than 0.5 kg/l / 31 lb/ft³, pressures more than 120 bar / 1740 psig and temperatures higher than 300°C / 570 °F, we recommend our BW 25 displacer-type level indicator.

Potentiometric Liquid Level Measuring Device

The BM 500 level gauge operates on the potentiometric measuring principle and is designed for use in all electrically conductive products with a minimum conductivity of 1 µS/cm (e.g. distilled water).

This method is particularly suitable for measuring levels in small vessels containing viscous, pasty or heavily caking products. The electronic evaluation unit is integrated in the connecting head and supplies a level-proportional output signal of 4 … 20 mA.

The HWM 500 hygienic process welding sleeve ensures installation in conformity with standards of hygiene. Due to its high temperature resistance (140°C / 285°F), the BM 500 is eminently suitable for CIP cleaning and sterilizing processes.

Measuring principle

The measuring principle is comparable to that of a slider potentiometer, with in this case the liquid representing the slider pick-off.

An alternating current is applied to a stainless steel tube to cause a drop in voltage via the electrical resistance of the tube (cf. slider path). The conductive wall of the vessel forwards the tapped voltage conducted through the liquid to a high-resistance amplifier. Based on the supply voltage, this yields the ratio between the depth of immersion and the total length of the tube. 

Together with the high-resistance pick-off, this ratio explains why the measuring system is independent of the conductivity of the product. Sticky deposits merely form a parallel connection with the anyway very low-resistance tube. What is measured, therefore, is only the actual product between tube and vessel wall.
